RTA Vehicle Retest Booking in Dubai: What Changed in 2025
10 August 2026
If your car fails inspection, you already know you have 30 days to fix it and get retested. What’s changed more recently is how you actually book that retest — and a fair number of guides online still describe the older, walk-in-friendly system.
The booking change that catches people out
Since 2 June 2025, the RTA made online booking mandatory at most vehicle testing centres in Dubai — turning up without an appointment is no longer the default. Walk-ins are still accepted at 19 designated centres, but carry an extra AED 100 on top of the normal fee, so booking ahead saves money as well as time.
Booking itself is straightforward: through the RTA Dubai app or rta.ae, signing in with UAE Pass or an RTA account, entering your plate number, and picking a centre and time slot.
Why this matters inside your 30-day window
The reduced retest fee — AED 50 for light vehicles, AED 75 for heavy vehicles — only applies if you’re back within 30 days of the original failure. Miss that window and you’re paying for a full fresh inspection again, not a retest.
With booking now mandatory everywhere, slots at busier centres can fill up faster than they used to. Leaving your retest booking until day 25 or 26 of a 30-day window is cutting it closer than it was under the old walk-in system — worth booking as soon as the repair is done, not once the deadline is close.
One practical wrinkle for 2026
The Al Ghandi Vehicle Testing and Registration Centre in Ras Al Khor closed permanently on 1 January 2026. If that was your usual centre, the nearest alternatives are Al Jawdah Centre, Al Mutakamela Centre in Al Awir, or Tasjeel Centre in Al Awir.
How Super Auto handles this
Booking the retest slot is one more thing on the list after a failure, on top of actually sourcing the repair. We handle both together — once your repair is approved and done, we book the retest ourselves and keep track of your 30-day window so it doesn’t quietly run out on you, at no extra cost on top of the service.
