Dubai & Abu Dhabi Traffic Fines: How to Check, Pay, and Clear Them Before Renewal

Traffic fines in the UAE don’t expire. They sit on the record indefinitely until paid — which means the fine you forgot about from eight months ago is still there, and it’s usually discovered at the worst possible moment: mid-renewal.

Checking fines in Dubai

Dubai fines are checked and paid through Dubai Police’s own services (by plate number, license number, or ticket number) or through the RTA Dubai app, with digital wallet and direct bank-app payment options now commonly supported. The Emirates Vehicle Gate (EVG) portal is useful if you want one place to check across more than one emirate at once rather than switching between systems.

Checking fines in Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi fines run through the Tamm platform under its Drive & Transport services, or the Abu Dhabi Police app directly. The process is broadly the same shape as Dubai’s — search by plate or license, review what’s outstanding, pay — just a different portal.

Why this becomes a renewal problem

Vehicle registration renewal gets blocked if there are unpaid fines against the vehicle or the registered driver — RTA won’t process the renewal until they’re cleared, regardless of how the fine was originally issued or which emirate it came from. For fines that have built up to a significant amount, an installment option exists in some cases (a partial upfront payment with the rest spread over interest-free installments) rather than requiring the full amount at once — worth knowing about rather than assuming it’s all-or-nothing.

The pattern that catches people out

It’s rarely one large fine. It’s usually two or three smaller ones from different months, sometimes issued in a different emirate than where the car is currently registered, that nobody checked until renewal was due — at which point what should have been a same-day renewal turns into a multi-step delay.
